What to do with the 4 most common shaving problems!
Problem 1: Bumps & rash
What it is: Rash with red bumps that itch.
How does it happen: There are different ways in which skin irritation occurs, but in general it is because you are not properly prepared. The bristles are not soft, your razor blade is blunt or you are pressing too hard.
How to prevent razor bumps: Make sure you shave when the hair is as soft as possible. During, or just after, a shower is a good time. Also stay away from disposable razors with multiple blades. It is very easy for hairs to get caught and cause irritation. Regularly clean your razor with water between shaves.
How to get rid of razor bumps: Make sure you apply moisturizer after shaving. This can be a simple aftershave, but if you are prone to irritation, you can also opt for a soothing balm or cortisone ointment.
Problem 2: Wounds
What it is: Small razor burns or cuts
How does it occur: Inattention, shaving with a dull blade or applying too much pressure.
How can you prevent razor burns: Make sure you shave with a sharp blade from now on (and replace it regularly), and do not apply too much pressure. Try to avoid going over the same spot as much as possible. Invest in a BushBuster 4.0 , which has a protective cap so that the blades touch the hair, but not the skin.
How to solve it: You can stop the bleeding by running an ice cube over the wound (this shrinks the blood vessel). And of course clean it and, if necessary, put a plaster on it.

Problem 3: Itching
What is it: a dry, tight and itchy feeling
How does it occur: Generally by shaving on too dry skin
How can you prevent itching after shaving: Make sure you always shave during or after showering, when the skin is wet and the hair is soft. And apply a moisturizing cream or moisturizer after shaving. Or if you have sensitive skin: a cortisone ointment.
How to fix it: If the itching is indeed caused by dry skin, then a good moisturizer should solve the problem fairly quickly!
Problem 4: Ingrown hairs
What is it: A painful bump under which there is a hair that is bent and therefore does not grow 'outwards', but back inwards.
How does it happen: The most common mistake that causes ingrown hairs is shaving against the grain.
How to prevent ingrown hairs: Make sure you take a shower first (sorry for the repetition, but it's really important!) so that the hair is soft and supple. Only shave in the direction of the hair, and preferably not over the same spot often. Use a clean blade.
How to solve ingrown hairs: Generally, this problem resolves itself. But if you want to speed up the process, it is best to do so with a warm compress. This makes the skin softer. And make sure you scrub the skin under which the hair is hidden with a washcloth or a (clean!) toothbrush. Do this in circles, and the hair should escape on its own. There are also creams you can use to exfoliate the skin. Those work fine too. Better stay away from your tweezers, the hair is usually too deep for that and you will only irritate the area worse.
